Milk - Music video - Editing process - Combining songs
Combining Milk and HSNCC by the 1975
We have used 'final cut pro' to combine our two songs into one. This is the first part and last part of HSNCC by The 1975 and Milk by The 1975. The combination of the two songs allows us to have more time to display the videos narrative in it's entirety.

Editing our video
Although we have began editing with the song Milk by the 1975, we also need to include the intro and outro of the song HNSCC which will make our video longer and give us more time to include our narrative in its full entirety.
Filming updates
Although we got the bulk of filming done on Sunday, 22nd November, we plan to film some scenic shots tomorrow (Wednesday) after college. These will include time-lapses of either waves crashing, a sun setting or sun rising. To finalise the storyline, we are also filming Katy's Nana, who volunteered to act as the 'grown up' version of the female protagonist, this will not take long to film but is vital to the concept we have went for. We are continuing to edit our already filmed footage and are uploading regular updates on our blogs.
Props
We created a powerpoint displaying the props we bought and used through out our music video, with details of where we bought them. We also showed our outfits.
Mise en scene
Characters and mise en scene from rebecca14150330
I created a powerpoint collating all the images of makeup/outfit we took, along with the inspirations behind them. We took inspiration from Effy Stonem, a character from the British TV show, Skins. We felt her character aesthetic was fitting, as she is what is categorised as a 'Reckless teenager' and our main character fulfils this role as she becomes involved with drugs. I also included where we purchased the outfit and props, such as the silver heart locket which she picks up in the music video as a vital part of the storyline.

Draft 1 - Milk
We used iMovie to put together some of the clips we filmed at the weekend. This is a very rough draft and the final cut of the music video will not be synced like this as we just wanted to see what some of the clips we filmed looked like when merged together. Also, the lip syncing of the song will not be shown during this part of the video and we placed it there to experiment with the editing.
For our next draft, we will edit the song used in this (Milk) with HNSCC by The 1975 to allow us to have more time to show whats going on in the video as evidently the song is quite short and our full narrative cannot be shown in it's entirety during this time space. Therefore the clips in this draft will be shown during HNSCC and the rest of the video (which wouldn't fit in this draft) will be shown during Milk and the last thirty seconds of HNSCC. I will also use Final Cut Pro to edit my next draft as it will allow me to make the video look as professional as possible with a range of other tools which are not available on iMovie.

Behind the scenes

Behind the scenes
We took pictures of the actress behind the scenes, featuring her makeup which was messy eyeliner, following our inspiration from Skins character, Effy Stonem. We also got shots of her applying fake blood to represent a nose bleed, a result from drug-use. We supplied the fake blood ourselves from a halloween store to give the character a more realistic look into the usage of drugs.
Evidence of filming
We took the following images on set whilst we were setting up our filming. We used a tripod in order to steady the camera and refrain it from any shaking due to our hand movements. In the shots you can see Katy Marwood filming the first scene we filmed, which features our actress, Oceana, walking away from us. We also handed her the camera to give a point-of-view shot which can enable the audience to see the action and storyline through her eyes. You can also see me, setting up the camera on the tripod - we delegated tasks between us to ensure we all contributed to the making of our music video.

The final 2 images are filmed in a separate location, where the main story line takes place. During it, we filmed the actress on the tripod lip syncing the lyrics with a white wall behind her. This all contributes to our evidence of filming, which we ensured we got whilst we filmed the main storyline.

Filming outcome
Our plan to film on Sunday was successful, as we gathered 194 videos and images for our music video, digipak and advert.

Filming
We originally planned to film on Saturday the 21st of November but after checking the weather forecast and seeing that Saturday is going to rain, we didn't want to risk it and instead rearranged the filming day to Sunday. We contacted the actress and made sure she was available.

Digipak ideas
We looked at The 1975's existing album/EP covers to give us inspiration for the creative process of our own. From this research we have discovered that the band use their logo and the symbol of the rectangle throughout their products (music videos, album covers and posters) as this is a form of brand identity and as soon as their audience see the rectangle they associate it with the band. Therefore, the rectangle will be a feature of our own digipak and music video.

2/11/15 - Todays lesson
Unfortunately, we could not film our music video as planned in half term as the cast and crew were unavailable. We planned to then film the 2nd of November but in todays lesson, I logged onto my college email and received an email from one of our cast members, Roy Stephenson stating he was unable to continue to feature in the music video.
This will result in us having to find another cast member to fit this role, or if its too short notice or we can't find a replacement, we will have to feature in our own video to ensure we have footage and are able to continue with the current concept we are going for despite a casting issue. We replied;
Filming
We plan to film this week and next week, as most of the cast have prior engagements which disables them to be available to film some days this week. We will arrange a particular day closer to the time, once we have gotten an idea about when they are free and begin filming our music video. We were not able to film during the half-term holiday, as we previously planned as the weather was poor and Oceana was busy most of the week; she has ensured us that she will be free from the 5th until the 15th so we plan to film most of it during this slot.
